Best Practices

  • Log behavioral changes immediately. Do not wait until a vet visit to remember when a symptom started. The behavioral notes feature timestamps entries so your vet gets accurate timelines for diagnosis.

  • Set medication refill alerts with buffer time. A 7-day refill warning gives you time to call the vet for prescription renewal, wait for approval, and pick up or receive delivery without missing a dose.

  • Weigh pets monthly and log the trend. Subtle weight changes are the earliest indicator of many health conditions. A 10% weight change in a cat can be clinically significant. The weight chart makes trends visible.

  • Keep emergency vet information in the care sheet permanently. After-hours emergencies happen. Having the emergency vet address, phone number, and your pet's medication list accessible saves critical time during stressful situations.

  • Update the dashboard after every vet visit. Record new medications, updated vaccination dates, blood work results, and vet recommendations immediately. This keeps the pet sitter care sheet and vet visit summaries always current.

Common Issues

  • Medication schedule conflicts between multiple pets. The dashboard shows all pets' medication times in a unified timeline view. Stagger doses by 15 minutes if you need to administer to multiple pets and track compliance separately.

  • Vaccination schedule seems different from what the vet recommends. The skill uses standard AAHA and AAFP guidelines, but your vet may adjust based on your pet's health, lifestyle, and regional disease prevalence. Always follow your vet's specific recommendations.

  • Pet sitter care sheet is too long and overwhelming. Enable pet_sitter_mode which generates a simplified one-page-per-pet format with only essential daily tasks, medication instructions, and emergency contacts.

Privacy & Data Handling

  • Local Processing: All pet records are generated and maintained in your local Claude Code session. Pet health data, vet information, and medication details are never shared with external services.
  • Data Retention: Pet profiles and health records exist only in your current session and exported files. No animal health data persists on external servers between sessions.
  • Export Options: Export as Markdown care sheets, CSV health records, Notion databases, or ICS calendar reminders. All files are saved to your local filesystem.
  • No Veterinary Sharing: The skill does not transmit records to veterinary clinics, pet insurance providers, or animal health databases. You control all sharing of your pets' health information.
